Ladybug

I'm lucky I was sitting on a low camping stool when I spotted her - had to spend the good part of an hour stooping down to take over 3 dozen shots of this ladybug. She kept moving over the grass so fast - I assume she was trying to take in all the moisture from the morning dew on the grass. Most of the time she was on the underside of the blades, but the few times that she showed up on top of a blade, I leapt into action.

Shooting macro has really taught me how much perseverance it takes to get that perfect shot (I'm not sure I have that much yet). When I didn't have a macro lens, and I looked at these great macro shots, I always thought once I have the lens, I can do this easily. Now I know how big a fool I was to think this was easy :-) This shot (the best of the lot) turned out to be too bright, with too much sunlight reflecting off the bug - maybe a better attempt next time!

Its a fine shot, and a good reward for your perseverance, Thomas.

In my experience, you are correct...its the work you do that makes the difference...not the macro lens...some of my best up-close shots are made with non-macro lenses.
Thomas Mathew: Thanks Ray - your words are always inspiring smile
Another great picture Thomas. I agree with Ray's comment about macro lenses. I have taken a few good close shots without a macro lenses.
Thomas Mathew: I'm a fan of those close-up photos of yours Frances smile Thanks for stopping by.

I know only too well what you mean about sunlight reflecting off of shiny insects! Well done for persevering, as this is great
Thomas Mathew: Thanks Lisl - glad you like it smile

I so much know exactly what you mean, Thomas. It has been a big learning curve for me, too. But you clearly are figuring it out. Bravo!
Thomas Mathew: Thank you for the kind words Ginnie
I wouldn't have noticed the brightness for studying the great detail you've captured! It's so tough to get any animal, because of the movement. I, too, have taken and deleted my fair share of blurry macro creatures! This is wonderful!
Thomas Mathew: Thank you kindly Elizabeth.
Superb macro Thomas... the detail and colour are very special in this shot....petersmile
Thomas Mathew: Thank you Peter - glad you like it smile
