World Heritage

The walls of the mosque and other structures in the complex are in ruins today but the minar stands tall, perfectly. The top 2 storeys have been damaged a few times mostly because of lightning striking the tower. The damage done was promptly repaired and the glory restored by the then emperors Feroz Shah Tughlak and later by Sikandar Lodi. The minar was also subject to some repairs during the British Raj and the Archaeological Survey of India has installed a lightning absorber to protect the structure from any more damages.

I liked the way the walls in the foreground have collapsed - just perfectly to accomodate view of the minar, as if purposely done :-)

This tower amazes me every time I see it, Thomas. I have never seen one like it before. Thank God they repair it every time it gets damaged. The people in the pic give it a good sense of scale.
Thomas Mathew: Thanx Ginnie. I too am always amazed by historic monuments like this - the perfection, which with they built these structures in days when technology wasn't half as developed as today, is just commendable.
I love this site. I have been to the Qutab Minar just once, but it has etched itself in my memory. The scale and grandness of this structure is amazing! smile
Thomas Mathew: Thanx for stopping by Kedar smile
