Hiding the Sun

This is the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque inside the Qutub complex. Though its almost in ruins, but the architecture is worth watching. It wasn't as dark as it seems here - I deliberately focused the shot against the sun with a low exposure to get the silhoutte effect.

This mosque was built on the site of a Hindu Temple and most of the material used here was taken from the temple. What makes the blend look good, are the pillars in the foreground which have a definite ancient Hindu style and the walls which are a perfect example of medieval Islamic architecture. The lone pillar in the center of the door in the background is the Iron Pillar.

It's incredible that you were able to take this pic looking into the sun, Thomas. The silhouette effect is perfect for this.

Beautifully framed.. I know Qutb Minar and surroundings are a great place to photograph monuments.. especially because of the interesting juxtapositions one can come up with.. This one's wonderful!
